NEW DESIGN PS12 MODULE
Performance Specification:
ELCON, Inc. of Minooka, Illinois, has introduced a new control system power supply for application to EMD's 50 series locomotives. The ALL NEW design offers improved performance and increased reliability. In addition, the component degradation problems experienced with OEM PS 11 modules have been eliminated. ELCON uses state-of-the- art power supply components and design technology to increase power conversion efficiency, decrease power dissipation, reduce failures, and eliminates the use of degradable components.
OUTPUT:
  • + and - 15 volts DC Isolated
  • 2.5 Amps each, current fold-back
  • LED Indicators
INPUT:
  • 40 to 125 Volts DC locomotive Aux. Gen.
  • 2000 Volts Input/Output Isolation

ELCON's PS12 eliminates latch-up and shut-down during power-up and load changes. Overheating, poor solder connections, degraded 4-lead capacitors, and faulty power transformers (typical failure modes of the OEM power supply) are eliminated.

FULL OPERATION:
  • -40°C to +85°C
  • 95% relative Humidity
  • 2 G's vibration, 1 to 50 Hz.
The ELCON PS12 also aids in the diagnosis of 50 Series module problems. A red LED on the module faceplate indicates an over-current fold-back condition. If the power demand load exceeds 2.5 amps due to fault in another 50 series module or in the radar circuit, the red LED will remain lit until the load fault is corrected. A green LED will indicate the module is regulating properly.
